PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Flex-Lok Elastomeric Patching Sealants – are ready to use, flexible, patching and caulking materials, that seal, hide surface imperfections, waterproof and offer superior performance when used for filling and patching cracks, (hairline or large), and expansion joints in masonry and stucco surfaces. FLEX-LOK flexibility, which remains for years, permits normal structural movement while waterproofing, when used as a caulking or patching sealant. FLEX-LOK sealants have a textured finish that blends with stucco surfaces so that patches and filled cracks or joints will not be apparent after painting.

Surface Preparation
General:  All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, chalk, mildew, and other foreign matter.  Surface may be cleaned using TSP, or detergent solution.  Treat mildew with 1 part bleach to 3 parts water, rinse well.

Masonry:  Surface should be sound and new concrete fully cured.  Cracks should be dug out and any old caulkingmaterial removed.  Crumbling material should be removed with wire brush or by chipping.  For best results pressure wash masonry to remove, chalk, alkaline salts, mold, release agent or curing compounds, then seal with a quality masonry conditioner.

Previously Coated Surfaces:
Remove all loose and flaking paint.  Pressure wash and/or seal chalky surfaces.Ferrous metal:  Prime all ferrous metal with a high quality rust inhibitive primer.

Galvanized Metal:

New:  Pressure wash then prime with galvanized metal primer.
Weathered:  Wire brush and prime areas showing signs of rust, or pitting.
Wood: Prime with quality Alkyd Exterior, wood primer.

APPLICATION DATA

Smooth/Knife Grade
Apply with a putty knife or caulking gun.  It is recommended that large joints be tooled to break and expose air pockets, which can then be repaired.  Pack material into cracks or joints using pressure to obtain complete contact.
Apply Flex-Lok generously over center of crack; then while material is still wet, using broad trowel, feather Flex-Lok approximately 1” to either side of the crack, maintaining a minimum 1/16” crest above crack, and gradually feathering flush with surface.  Flex-Lok may be finely feathered and a smoother finished obtained by wiping patch with a dampened sponge or brush while applying.  The gradual feathering of Flex-Lok helps to conceal the patch after painting, compensates for shrinkage after curing, and provides maximum elongation over crack.

Buttering Grade:
Apply with a stiff brush, roller, or trowel.  When patching cracks or sealing seams use the same feathering technique as descried for applying Flex-Lok Knife Grade.  Wider seams may require the use of fiberglass cloth.  If so apply a heavy coat of Flex-Lok over the full length of seam and about 2” inches wider than the fiberglass material working it well into seams and joints.  Next carefully lay of the fiberglass, pressing in into the fresh Flex-Lok with trowel, feathering edges to surface.  Apply a second coat of Flex-Lok over the fiberglass cloth and feather.

Brushing Grade:
When repairing seams, fiberglass membrane may be needed.  First, with a brush or broad putty knife, apply a heavy coat of Flex-Lok over the full length of seam and about 2 inches wider than the fiberglass material.  Fiberglass strips
should not be more than 10 or 12 ft. long.  For greater lengths, lap fiberglass ends 2 to 3 inches.  Next, carefully but firmly, bed fiberglass strip into Flex-Lok coated surface and without stretching it, smooth it with brush or broad tool.  A light coat of Flex-Lok over the imbedded fiberglass permits feather edging and gives better results.  If fiberglass is not needed, Flex-Lok may be worked into seams with a brush or putty knife.

DRYING TIME
Flex-Lok becomes tack free in approximately 2 hours.  Repairs made with Flex-Lok may be painted over with a high-grade latex paint after minimum of 4 hours.

CLEAN UP
Use soapy water immediately after use to clean hands and equipment.  If material is too dry to respond, use lacquer thinner to remove.
